Shahwar Akbar

Shahwar Akbar was called to the bar of Ontario in 2017 after completing a law degree at the University of Wales in the United Kingdom. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Literature, Philosophy and Psychology. He articled with Ryerson University’s General Counsel Office through the Law Practice Program in 2016.

Shahwar has gained extensive corporate legal experience through working in major financial institutions in Toronto. At OWS Law, he practices in the area of real estate law, with a primary focus on commercial and residential real estate matters. Shahwar is well-versed in preparing and negotiating Agreements of Purchase and Sale, in addition to related closing and transactional documents for the acquisition and disposition of commercial and residential property. He has also acted for a variety of lenders in the completion of commercial mortgage financing, such as construction loan financing.

Shahwar is a member of the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the South Asian Bar Association, and the Canadian Muslims Lawyers’ Association. He recently worked on an academic paper with Osgoode Hall Law School on the influence of Canadian federalism in budding democracies in South Asia. He also enjoys reading, playing cricket, and spending time with his family.
